Although this nursing home's overall score is not a highlight, it received a slightly more favorable grade in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this area, which is a decent score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Nursing ratings are primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric.

This facility's third most favorable area ended up being short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. In calculating our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is considered to be a fair measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

The last category we rated was long-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this area. This is a fair grade in this area. In computing these long-term care scores, we analyze the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
