While we didn't give this facility a good overall grade, we did give it a strong grade in the category of inspections, where it received a B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

In addition, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B in our long-term care category. This is one of our more impressive scores. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 98.5 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing grade includes a variety of subcategories. The most important factor is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. This place fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

The final area we assessed is short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is an abysmal score. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Given its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.3 percent of its patients returning home.
