The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave it an A-. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this facility got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this area. This is typically a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a patient even once per day.

Moving on to the category of short-term care, this facility was given just a D in this category. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more critical for folks in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
