Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this nursing home received elite marks in the category of short-term care. As a result, it was given one of our best scores in that area with a score of A+. In our short-term care score, we attempt to create a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. The nursing grade consists of a handful of factors, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was nursing, proved to be this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave this facility a D in this category. This really is one of the few weak links of a strong report card. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the factors we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
