Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we have deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Compounding its high-end achievements in other areas, we gave this facility a score of A for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing score assesses several subcategories, but the paramount consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Moving on to our last category, this nursing home was given an extremely favorable short-term care score. Although this wasn't quite as good as some of its other grades, this is still one of the better scores a facility can receive. Short-term care grades are typically used to score a facility's rehabilitation services. To offer quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this facility submitted registered nurse or physical therapist staffing data. Lastly, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 4.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
