Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A+ for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
To add to its high-end accomplishments in other areas, we gave this facility a score of A for its short-term care score. Short-term care grades are critical for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 7.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

We also would like to alert you to the fact that this nursing home was given a top-shelf grade of A in our long-term care category. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 90.08264 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat lower than we anticipated but still a respectable figure. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

In the final category we looked at, this facility received a very favorable grade of A- in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home finished off a straight A report card. The nursing rating consists of a handful of components, however, the paramount one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This place fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided with better nursing care.
