Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this category tend to have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also was given a favorable grade in our long-term care category. We gave this nursing home a better than average grade of B+ in that area. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. One of the datapoints we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.736145 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the aged 65 and up population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. The nursing rating weighs a handful of factors, but the main consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below the national average. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next area we graded is short-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's least impressive category. We gave it an F in this category, which is certainly concerning. Short-term care scores are based in part on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. With its poor rating in this category, we were not shocked to find that this facility provides far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 2.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
