Nurse Quality
The main thing propping up this nursing home's profile is its elite nursing score. We gave this nursing home an A- in that category. The nursing grade is based on several subcategories. The most heavily weighted variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This facility offers 3.5 hours of nursing care per patient daily, of which more than an hour was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled nurses. In determining our nursing grades, we attach more significance to hours provided by registered nurses. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of short-term care, with a strong grade of A- in this category. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This grade is generally a solid measure of a facility's rehabilitation. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. This facility provides more care from registered nurses to its residents than most nursing homes. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. This place fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 53.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility received a good score in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was long-term care. We gave this nursing home a D for long-term care, making this the facility's weakest category. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. After considering the volume of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinates 95.28302 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Unfortunately, this nursing home's hospitalization rate was far less impressive. We found that this facility had 2.41 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an alarming rate.
