We want to point out that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, we gave it one of our highest scores in that area with an A-. Inspection ratings are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.
Nurse Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received a grade of B. Few facilities performed better in this category. Nursing grades are primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility Iowa in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning a patient more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we gave this nursing home a grade of B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our more favorable grades. In our short-term care rating, we strive to forge a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we scored was long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of D for long-term care, leaving this as the facility's worst grade. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 86.458336 percent of its residents. This is significantly lower than what we expected. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best feature in this category.
