In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this facility excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed this well in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

On the list of its many elite scores, this nursing home was awarded an excellent long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in that area. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.57 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

Our short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, we found that this nursing home provided respectable levels of physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. This place performed better than most facilities in this area with 53.9 percent of its patients returning home.

The next category we analyzed was nursing. This facility was given a strong nursing grade this year, with a grade of B. While this is not as elite as several of its other scores, this remains one of the stronger scores in that category. Nursing ratings are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed better than average in this area. This is often a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
