Facility Inspections
To pair with its strong overall score, we awarded this place an A+ for our inspection category. Inspection ratings are based on several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also would like to alert you to the fact that this facility received a high-end score of A in our long-term care category. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are well cared for. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.78541 percent of its patients, which is much higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning patients at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was short-term care. This nursing home was awarded an impressive short-term care score this year, with a grade of B-. Even though this isn't nearly as impressive as several of its other scores, this remains an acceptable score for that area. Our short-term care scores are probably more critical for those requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
