Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

On top of being a first rate nursing home overall, this nursing home also excelled in the area of long-term care, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes did better in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 97.540985 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its high-end resume, this nursing home also was awarded a dominant short-term care score, with a grade of A-. Our short-term care ratings are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 6.7 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We gave this facility an A- for our inspections rating. Inspection grades are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The final category we analyzed turned out to be this nursing home's weakest area. Nevertheless, even its lowest point would actually be a highlight for many facilities. We gave it a favorable grade of B for nursing. We weighed the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the number of hours those nurses were with patients, in calculating our rating in this area. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
