Although we didn't rate this nursing home favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing scores are primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Lastly, nursing scores also factor in quality-based assessments, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses to assist its patients.

Sadly, this nursing home's third highest category was short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still fared somewhat poorly. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to measure a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Based on its poor grade in this category, we were not stunned to find that this nursing home offers far less physical therapy per patient than a typical nursing home. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 26.3 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.

The next category we analyzed is long-term care, where this nursing home was given an abysmal score in this category as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility gave the vaccine to 98.4375 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable datapoint. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
