Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best scores in this area with a grade of A. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this area generally have few severe deficiencies. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies an immediate threat to patient health or safety. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

We also awarded this facility a favorable grade in nursing. This facility earned a grade of B in this category, which is one of our better grades. Nursing ratings are largely tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Michigan in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a policy of turning patients more frequently.

We also awarded this facility a solid grade in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated just 46.698112 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next category we scored is short-term care. We gave this facility a D in short-term care, leaving this as its worst category grade. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals.
