Facility Inspections
In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this facility performed well in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Very few nursing homes fared as well in this category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be relatively minor. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This particular facility provided 5.2 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the better figures we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of offering high levels of nursing care, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls resulting in serious injury, this nursing home performed as well as any facility the country. Avoiding major falls is generally an indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
In the next area we assessed, this facility was given dominant marks in the category of long-term care. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with a grade of of A+. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 95.97701 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than the vast majority of nursing homes. This nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.39 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
In the final area we looked at, this nursing home was given high scores in the area of short-term care as well. Consequently, we gave it an A+. This left it as one of an elite handful of nursing homes we gave A+'s in all of our categories. In computing these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. This facility elevated its grade in this area by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than a typical facility. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who returned to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed most nursing homes in the country in this area with 55 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.
