Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. We would argue that one of the most important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Another red flag is that CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Our nursing score is mostly associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the quantity of hours of care offered.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's next best category was short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat badly. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be more critical for patients in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Not surprisingly, we learned that this nursing home provides significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at was long-term care. This nursing home received an abysmal grade of F in that category. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.20144 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
