Facility Inspections
Although we graded this place incredibly poorly overall, it earned a fairly impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that area with a grade of B. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid facilities that have a long list of deficiencies. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Our nursing grade is mostly tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this facility's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. This place performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality
Another issue was the F this facility received in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grades are critical for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last item we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this facility's short-term care score.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was long-term care, in which this facility was given a poor score here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this area, which is definitely a major disappointment. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is often a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 92.77109 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be slightly less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. To our surprise, this facility was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
