Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an A. We weighed the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with residents, in computing our rating in this area. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving a resident more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

An additional quality feature for this facility is that it received a favorable short-term care score. Indeed, this wound up being its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. Short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 4.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third area we graded is long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a solid grade of B-. Our long-term care grades are more critical for those in need of more conventional services related to activities of daily living. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.87387 percent of its residents, which is higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

In the last area we looked at, we found that this facility received a solid inspection report this year as well, with few major dings from government inspectors. It received a decent grade in our inspection category with a B-. This facility really didn't have any major weak links. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
