Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its profile, this nursing home also earned a grade of B for its short-term care rating. This is an above average score in this category. With our short-term care category, we endeavor to forge a fair measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility was given a strong long-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our better scores in that area with a score of B. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 83 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is a few points less than we anticipated but still a decent percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
The last category we graded was nursing. This facility received a favorable nursing grade in our assessment, with a grade of B-. Although this is not nearly as good as several of its other grades, this is nevertheless a respectable rating for this category. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often an indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place.
