Facility Inspections
To go along with its favorable overall performance, we gave this facility an A+ for the area of inspections. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this category typically have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a score of A for our long-term care score. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facilities next most favorable category is short-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the road score in this area. Our short-term care ratings are presumably most meaningful for those needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the next area, this facility did not perform well. Due to an abysmal grade of F in nursing, this is clearly this facility's weakest category. Our nursing score is based on quite a few subcategories, most of which are based on nursing hours. This facility provided a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Unfortunately, this nursing home also did not fare as well as we hoped in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed for this category.
