While this facility's overall score was as bad as it gets, it performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. Sadly, this nursing home's second most respectable category is long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still fared relatively poorly. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities provide. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to just 56.794426 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.

In our next category, we gave this nursing home a rock-bottom F in the category of short-term care. In computing these short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Considering its score in this category, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.5 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below the national average.

The last area we assessed is nursing. We gave it a lowly F for this category, which is an abysmal score. In determining a facility's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with residents as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home was above average in two of the statistics we focus on, with solid marks for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
