Long-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this proved to be a strong facility is that it received a very impressive long-term care grade. In fact, this was its best grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A+. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care grades. Although we determined this facility had a favorable volume of nursing hours provided by nurses aids and other nursing staff, we found its vaccination rate to be somewhat slightly lower than we anticipated. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 84.139786 percent of its patients. This is a statistic we would love to see this facility improve. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 3.12 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as favorable as most of its other scores in this category, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Facility Inspections
We also want to emphasize this nursing home's nearly flawless inspections recently. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Inspection grades account for several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. The nursing rating consists of many factors, many of which are associated with nursing hours. This facility provides an impressive 4.6 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is one of the better totals in Louisiana. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place actually excelled in some of these. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final area, this nursing home didn't fare well. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in this area, this was notably its worst area. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. It looks like this place was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the staffing figures we looked at. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 29.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.
