Facility Inspections
In addition to being a top notch facility overall, it also performed well in the area of inspections, where it received an A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also fared very well in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Only a select group of facilities received a better grade in this area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. We assessed the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses were with residents, in calculating our grade in this area. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final area, this facility received an acceptable short-term care rating. Although this isn't nearly as impressive as some of its other category grades, this is truly not a terrible score. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 2.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below average.
