Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To pair with its relatively modest overall grade, we gave this facility an A for its inspection grade. This score is far better than its overall rating. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's better category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category typically provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure patients are kept in good health. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 78.62595 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is a few points lower than we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next best area we awarded this nursing home in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a C. In computing these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we rated is nursing. We gave this nursing home a D for the area of nursing, leaving this as the facility's worst category grade. The nursing rating consists of many factors, many of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this place's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
