Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the nursing home's overall score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these end up being relatively minor. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the area of short-term care, this nursing home was awarded just a D in this category. Sadly, this wound up being one of its better features. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. Considering its poor grade in this area, we weren't stunned to discover this facility provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 5.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.

Long-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility's next best category was long-term care. However, with a grade of D in this category, it still performed relatively poorly. Facilities that don't fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 87.878784 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
Nurse Quality
The next category we graded was nursing. This facility received an abysmal grade of F in this area. Nursing grades are primarily based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. Unfortunately, this facility also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based measures to pair with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This place was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this area.
