Grade: A

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it earned a very impressive inspection grade. Inspections ended up being its best category. In this category, we gave this facility an A. Inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. Although this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.

Nurse Quality

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Nursing scores are largely tied to a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its strong resume, this nursing home also received a dominant short-term care grade, with a score of A. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we scored was long-term care. This facility received an impressive long-term care score in our assessment, with a B-. While this wasn't as dominant as several of its other grades, this remains a decent grade for this area. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 87.80488 percent of its patients. This is multiple points lower than what we were hoping for. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
