Long-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this facility also excelled in long-term care, where it earned an impressive grade of A+. Few facilities performed better in this area. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the senior population. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 3.53 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this statistic can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Facility Inspections
This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing rating assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Lastly, this place also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. For example, it fared as well as any facility the state when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these datapoints as reliable measures of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the last category, this nursing home was given an acceptable short-term care grade. Although this is not quite as good as many of its other scores, this is still not a bad grade. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides a substantially greater volume of physical therapist hours than the typical facility. The last datapoint we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 25.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
