Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this facility's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with an A. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also want to point out that this facility received a decent grade in our nursing category. We awarded it a grade of C in the area. Nursing ratings are largely associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is far below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did well in this subcategory. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving patients more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of short-term care, this nursing home was awarded just a D in this category. Short-term care scores are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.3 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we rated was long-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this category, which is a very poor score. Nursing homes that receive this kind of score in this category likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the vaccine to only 87.97814 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This was its best feature in this category.
