Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to point out its nearly flawless government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with a list of severe deficiencies flagged. This particular nursing home received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more favorable category scores came in the category of long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 84.033615 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is slightly less than we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this place had 2.52 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Our nursing score analyzes quite a few subcategories, however, the primary one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This facility was above average in two of the major datapoints we focus on, with solid marks for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are generally good measures of the quality of nursing care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was short-term care. We gave it an F in this category, which is a poor grade. In forming our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Based on its grade in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this place was well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Honestly, this was about what we expected to find. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 24 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.
