Facility Inspections
While we gave this place a terrible overall score, we awarded it a grade of B for our inspections rating. This was the result of the nursing home receiving a decent inspection report this year. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we gave this nursing home an C. Our nursing rating is based on many components, but the most important consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Finally, although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it did very well in this subcategory.

Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only earned a D for its long-term care grade, which is not an impressive grade. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinates 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we scored is short-term care. This facility received a very poor grade of F in this area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we analyze a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is often a useful measure of the facility's rehabilitation services. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
