Facility Inspections
On top of performing well overall, this nursing home also earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our highest scores in that category with a grade of A+. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. We were not able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note the fact that this facility received a top-shelf grade of A in our long-term care area. Facilities that excel in this category typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of offering elite levels of nurse staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. In computing our nursing grades, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 7.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in Nevada in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We look at these metrics as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of B. Believe it or not, this proved to be this nursing home's worst area. A facility is doing something right when it's weakest grade still outperforms most other facilities. In our short-term care grade, we strive to create a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
