Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a quality facility overall, this nursing home really excelled in our short-term care category, where it earned a grade of A-. Few facilities performed better in this area. In calculating these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Facility Inspections
Turning to another one of this place's strengths, it also received a very impressive inspection score. Inspections proved to be one of its best categories. We gave this facility a grade of A-. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. There are a number of criteria within this grade. Most of the datapoints relate to levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next area, this facility didn't perform well. Due to a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that category, this is notably this facility's weakest category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated 86.60714 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be significantly less than what we expected. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.
