Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this is a decent nursing home is it earned a very favorable inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B+. Inspection grades are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we gave this nursing home a B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher scores. In forming these short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The goal is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. Nursing ratings are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded is long-term care. It received a lowly F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. This is clearly a major concern. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are a key measure. After we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
