Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We were not high on this facility's overall grades or its category grades. We gave it a D for long-term care and that actually turned out to be its best grade. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. We were a bit alarmed this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to only 77.69231 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home an D. Nursing grades are largely tied to a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility averaged only 0.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

This nursing home received an F for its inspection score. This is an important category. Grades in this range generally point to some red flags on the nursing home's government inspections. We would advise paying special attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection grade. We suggest you scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they caused a risk to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we rated was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel score in this category as well. It received a lowly F for this category, which is definitely a major concern. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is frequently a reliable measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Considering its score in this category, we weren't surprised to learn that this facility is well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Frankly, this was about what we expected to find. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
