We want to point out that this facility really outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with a grade of A-. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

This nursing home also received a positive grade in our long-term care category. We awarded this nursing home a better than average grade of B+ in that area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of looking at the elite volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff at this facility, we also were impressed by the facility's record for vaccinations. By way of example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. The last datapoint we assessed was the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 4.31 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some nursing homes due to the preexisting medical conditions of residents.

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home in any area came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses commit to residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 5 hours per resident on a daily basis. This is well above average. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding serious falls is typically an accurate indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

The final category we scored was short-term care. We gave this nursing home a D in our short-term care category, rendering this the nursing home's least impressive grade. In our short-term care assessment, we attempt to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. In this place's case, it looks like it offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility did not fare well here either. We found that just 45 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
