Facility Inspections
While we gave this place a poor overall grade, we gave it a grade of B for our inspections category. This was the result of the nursing home receiving a quality inspection report this year. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of D. Our nursing rating is primarily based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is below the national average. This nursing home also had abysmal marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hours. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This nursing home was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this metric. This is likely a bad sign in light of the fact that many pressure ulcers are preventable with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing rating significantly.

Long-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home just a D for our long-term care rating. This is not a score to write home about. For patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 94.666664 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. We were far less impressed with the facility's hospitalization rate. We found that this place had 3.1 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is nearly double the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the fourth area, this facility did not fare well in this category either. Due to an abysmal grade of F in short-term care, this is really as terrible as it gets. With our short-term care category, we endeavor to forge a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Not surprisingly, we discovered that this nursing home offers far less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than a typical facility. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 39.2 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.
