Facility Inspections

Grade: B

Although we graded this place incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our more favorable scores in that area with a grade of B. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid facilities that had a long list of severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better grades. Our nursing score is primarily tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is not a very impressive figure. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Our third category we assessed was long-term care, in which this nursing home was given an F. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 94.666664 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is more than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last area we graded is short-term care. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in that area. In crafting these short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. As you might expect, we learned that this place provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
