Facility Inspections
The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. Its inspection score was far better than its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave it an A+. Our inspection grades weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's more impressive category grades came in the area of short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a B. It actually fared better than most facilities in this area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to devise a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. We were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The final item we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 5.7 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. The nursing score assesses quite a few datapoints, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, although this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it did very well in this metric.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive category was long-term care, which is the final category we assessed. We gave it a lowly F in this area. In spite of several solid grades in other categories, this score is nevertheless alarming so we felt obligated to make a note of it. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means the facility did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this nursing home provided the vaccine to just 79.5 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
