Short-term Care Quality
Even though we gave this nursing home a poor overall score, we gave it a fairly respectable grade in our short-term care rating, where it received a B-. This was certainly better than some of its other category grades. In the category of short-term care, we strive to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. The hope is that this does not adversely affect the quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
Facility Inspections
We were also pleasantly surprised to award this facility a relatively favorable government inspection grade as well. We gave it a respectable grade of B- in this category, which was much better than its overall score. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This nursing home was hit with 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. The nursing rating assesses quite a few subcategories, however, the paramount one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our next area, this nursing home was given a respectable long-term care grade of C. In our long-term care assessment, we analyze the quantity of services provided by a facility, as well as a series of quality data points. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
