While we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it earned a more respectable long-term care grade this year. We gave it a C in that area. Long-term care ratings are based on a facility's volume of care. This means a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. After we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. We were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated only 79.32331 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing grade is largely tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. We gave it a grade of just D for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. We suggest you scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home had one category G through L deficiency, which are among the more serious deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies identified by CMS had potential to pose actual harm to residents. We are also concerned by the fact that this facility was flagged by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We prefer to avoid facilities with this designation. Please do your best to find an alternative nursing home.

The next category we graded is short-term care. This nursing home received a poor grade of F in that area. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. As you might expect, we learned that this place offers significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 2.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
