Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a list of deficiencies flagged. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out this facility's bottom of the barrel short-term care grade where it was given a lowly F. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is considered to be a reliable assessment of a facility's rehabilitation services. Considering its poor rating in this category, we were not stunned to find this facility offered significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this facility's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. The nursing rating analyzes many datapoints, many of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is long-term care, where this nursing home received a rock bottom score in this area as well. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home provided the vaccine to a relatively low 90.27778 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
