Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall score was as bad as it gets, it performed pretty well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B for that category, which is one of our better scores. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid facilities that have a long list of deficiencies. This place received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's next most favorable score is short-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this category, it still fared somewhat poorly. Short-term care ratings are crucial for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. With a score this poor in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this facility was below average in multiple staffing figures we assess. The facility provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility ended up receiving a a very poor score in our long-term care category. It received a lowly F in this category. If you are seeking anything other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 94.16058 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.73 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The last area we assessed is nursing. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a poor score. In computing our nursing grades, we look at both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This place averaged just 1.9 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is well below average. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this facility also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home.
