Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. Our nursing grade assesses quite a few subcategories, however, the main consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This place offers 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, of which more than an hour of those were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained nurses. In determining our nursing grades, we add more weight to hours provided by registered nurses. Finally, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place excelled in these areas, with excellent scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless government inspection. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with an A+. This was one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This facility received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning our third area, this nursing home received a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a score of A in that category. Short-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. One reason for this nursing home's favorable grade in this category is it provides more care from registered nurses than a typical facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Tennessee in this metric with 57.5 percent of its residents returning home. At most nursing homes, less than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
The fourth category we scored is long-term care, where this facility was given a grade of A-. This topped off an elite report card. Very few facilities earned an A- or higher in every category. For residents seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. Once we assessed the amount of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 87.64045 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.53 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
