Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. It doesn't appear that we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also was given an A+ long-term care grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to be given several A+ category grades. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home also was awarded a high-end short-term care grade. This actually is this facility's third strongest category score. In that area, this facility received a grade of A-. In our short-term care category, we seek to craft a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. It does not look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The next category we looked at was nursing. We gave this facility one of our more favorable scores in this area, with a grade of B. While this was not as high as many of this nursing home's other scores, it is nevertheless a fine grade. The nursing grade analyzes several components, but the most important one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
