Short-term Care Quality
We want to point out that this facility received a much better grade for short-term care than its overall score. In fact, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A-. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This area is typically a meaningful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility an A-. Nursing scores are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable category was long-term care. We gave it a B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the road score in this category. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 53.295128 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Facility Inspections
The last category we assessed is inspections. We were surprised to find that this nursing home received such a poor inspection grade. We gave it just a just D in this area. Clearly, this grade is not on par with some of this nursing home's other category grades. Inspection ratings relate to a facility's government inspections. Since this information is collected by government inspectors, we weight it pretty heavily. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This particular facility was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 2 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
