Facility Inspections
To pair with a favorable overall grade, we awarded this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also fared very well in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Not many nursing homes received a better grade in this category. In computing these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. This place excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it provided more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than a typical facility. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the country with 55.4 percent of its patients able to return home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also excelled in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A. Not many facilities received a better grade in this area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the nursing home population. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.85 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to our fourth area, this nursing home was given a very strong nursing score. In fact, we gave it an A- in this category, rounding out a straight A profile. Our nursing rating analyzes many factors, but the paramount one is the level of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving a patient even once per day.
