Registered Staff Hours
On top of performing well overall, this facility received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it earned one of our best scores in that area with an A+. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area tend to have few severe deficiencies. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note the fact that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We awarded them an elite score of A+ in this category. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

This rating is typically a useful assessment of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
