Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this ended up being a great nursing home is that it received an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. It does not appear that we were able to find deficiency data for this facility. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to this facility's list of accomplishments, it also was awarded a top-shelf long-term care grade. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this area. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 98.834496 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid negative health outcomes for the nursing home population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing score focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we graded is this facility's weakest area. However, even in its worst category we still gave it a respectable grade of C for short-term care. In calculating our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is more often than not a solid measure of a facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
