Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility has received near flawless health inspections recently. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. It doesn't appear that we were able to find deficiency data for this facility. Long-term Care Quality
Adding to its superb resume, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care category. In fact, it received a grade of A in that area. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the well above average quantity of care provided by aids and other staff at this nursing home, we also were impressed by the facility's vaccination statistics. By way of example, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.12 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was elite in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Very few nursing homes received a better grade in this area. In our short-term care assessment, we seek to create a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. This facility improved its score in this category by offering more than 50% more physical therapy hours to its residents than a typical nursing home. The last measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in South Carolina in this area with 57.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we looked at, this facility was awarded an impressive grade grade of B+ in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home wrapped up an elite profile. Our nursing grade is based on many data points, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. With 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Lastly, this place also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than the national average.
