Facility Inspections
We also wanted to point out that this facility has received near flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. Inspection ratings account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also excelled in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Not many facilities fared better in this area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 94.08867 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.93 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility is just about middle of the road in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we gave them one of our more favorable scores in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. Our short-term care grade is typically used to measure a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to feature better levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Georgia in this area with 60.2 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we graded is nursing, in which this nursing home received a grade of C. Even though this wound up being its least impressive category rating, this is still a middle of the pack score. Our nursing score includes several factors, however, the paramount one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these metrics. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared well in this subcategory.
