Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home received an A+ inspection grade. This grade is based on its recent government inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can offer a nursing home. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few relatively minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To complement its high-end performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for its short-term care score. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 6 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. The nursing category weighs many subcategories, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning a patient more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The final area we scored is long-term care. In this category, we awarded this facility a strong grade of B. For residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 62.068966 percent of its residents. This is a few points less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
